When Did the White Sox Forget They’re from Chicago?

ozzie guillen zip it.jpg“I don’t know nothin’ about nothin’, and I can prove it.”
– Ed “Butch” Panczko, ruthless Chicago gangster

It is the year 2009, dear readers, and I would think that by now, every single one of us has seen enough cop dramas on television to know that you never, ever, ever tell on yourself.  You just don’t do it.  Big Papi knows this.  So does Roger Clemens.  Why is it then that the Chicago White Sox — who reside not far from the famed warehouse district were body after lifeless body went to disappear forever — do not understand this golden rule of foul play?

First we watched as Bobby Jenks told the whole world that he purposely threw at Ian Kinsler — which netted him a $750 fine and a watchful eye from MLB brass — and now we have Ozzie Guillen himself blabbing to anyone who will listen that he’s out to bean anyone whom he suspects of throwing at his guys.  What next?  Kenny Williams owns up to jaywalking?  Check.

Look, it’s one thing to protect your team and head-hunt in retaliation.  Hell, in this game, it’s expected!  But to openly admit that you are going to throw at people, to announce to everyone that you intend on hurting someone, to alert the league that you’re going to send a message… well, that is just plain irresponsible.  And dumb.

al capone.jpg“I have always been opposed to violence.  I want peace, and I will live and let live.”  — Al Capone

Yep.  Tell a story.  Do the opposite.  Leave ‘em guessin’.

That, my friends, is the Chicago way.

Even political nimrod figurehead Rod Blagojevich knows this.

And he’s a Cubs fan

What’s your excuse, White Sox?

Hate me ‘cuz I put it out there, just don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m right.

Peace,

Jeff

It all starts from the top and Kenny Williams. I think the flamboyant honesty is pretty refreshing. No spin doctoring BS.

Don’t get me wrong, Prince. I like Kenny’s managerial moves, but the telling on yourself part I think is too far against the grain. They should revert back to handling business with the unsaid tenets of baseball. No need to cough up dough and cause scandal for doing what you’re gonna do anyway.

I think he saw the news of the educator who screemed prejudice and got the CWS most powerful fan to side with him, whether he was wrong or right, so Guillen is just setting the stage so his most powerful fan will take his side and put him inline for a bailout….zipper mouth pic is great…

Peter — I promise, the people who provided that photo did not alter it at all (*wink, wink).

Ozzie ain’t the first to say something idiotic

The White Sox made headlines sometimes for the wrong reasons such as the ones you pointed above, other than the no-hitters, 2005 World Series, and Jim Thome hitting his 500th career home run by a walk-off. I’d like to see better things on the field other than them forgetting which city they represent.

Johnny — Nice.

You just never know what pictures you’re going to see when you check in at RSBS. Love the zipper mouth pic! Creative. :) Admitting to actually trying to hit someone is just plain stupid. And these guys are doing a good job at it.

Matthew — On the real. Chicagoans, we don’t tell on ourselves. Believe dat!
Ginny — Yep. And I can’t take the credit for that photo. The fellas mentioned at the bottom of the post came up with it. It is nice (and accurate) though.

Hey did you hear the really wild Chicago White Sox news.
While in Seattle, White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams got a jaywalking ticket outside of Safeco Field.
I do remember going there and going to the stadium tour in the morning and purchasing parking passes for the parking garage just south of the stadium, and I got cursed at for walking across on the yellow light.
I guess the $ 56 dollar question to Williams is if the ticket is considered a “business expense” or if he has to pay it out of his own pocket.
What they do in Chi-town doesn’t fly in the Emerald City.

I’m fine with Ozzie saying whatever. It’s how he operates. It’s what he’s always done. Bobby Jenks saying yes, he did throw at Kinsley a) makes me very angry because I love Kinsley, and b) IS STUPID. Because, really. Who admits they did something on purpose? “Yeah, I got drunk and drove my car. On purpose.” WHAT?!
You mean Rod Blagojevich, aka Elvis Presley?

all this gangster talk makes me wanna watch goodfellas

RR — I referenced the ticket thing here in the post; was pretty big news on the backpage yesterday. I will remember your words of advice if ever in Seattle. Something tells me the White Sox don’t ever want to be in Seattle again. Why can’t they win there again?
Kylie — In baseball especially… you’re supposed to stay quiet and go about your business, whatever business that may be. Blago as Elvis? Elvis would be rolling over in his grave (or Burger King, wherever he is).
Pittpeas — Enjoy the flick, but don’t emulate it. Truth is, violence ain’t cool, man.

Hey guys! Great post! You guys are so funny!
My Yankees have been winning in dramatic fashion, so I came up with a new nickname for them. Are you ready for it? : “The Drama Club.” Huh? Isn’t it brilliant? It is!

PS: Your tag cloud is filled with random stuff, including “random” itself! You guys are so funny!

Virginia — Why, thank you! Appreciated. Like the name… I hope it soon becomes “The Dud Club” though ‘cuz I’m still tired of Yankees-everything. No harm intended of course. Just havin’ fun. Keep a comin’ back!

Ozzie is not too bright – and that may be putting it mildly, because that is one of the top 10 dumbest things I have ever heard a manager say. Glad he is not our manager!

If he were, Jenn, Lidge wouldn’t have a face anymore. LOL.

I used to think Chicago was this nice, placid Midwestern city with people who sounded like Bob Woodward. I must have been living in a cave! Honesty is better than going all Blago and lying about everything, but I agree that announcing you’re going to throw at the opponent is just stupid.

Jane — Why, what ever gave you that impression? LOL. We are midwesterners; we’re always nice to your face. Haha!
