If the Mets Were a Futon…

david wright big helmet.jpgAs the 2009 regular season comes to a close, so too do the pains suffered by most Major League clubs (unless you’re the Phillies, of course, who will have to endure a flat bullpen through at least three playoff games) and no team has bled out more publicly than the New York Mets.

I haven’t said a whole lot about the Mets’ woes because, well, everybody else has done quite an adequate job of ripping them apart, feasting on their mishaps, devouring their disastrous misfortune.

Then I found a futon.

On the interwebs.

Duh.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009 New York Mets (played by an inanimate metal futon frame shot with a hand held digital camera):

Yep.  It’s broke.

Either just leave it there, dead on the ground, or start all over again fresh with a new, shiny, expensive futon that can take a beaning or two.  Put a great big kiddie helmet on it if ya like.  I’m cool with that.

Don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m right.

Peace,

Jeff

Sometimes I wonder how the Mets survive when most of the city sit there with an inferiority complex towards the team.
Both teams built amazing ballparks, but the Bronx gets the nod because of its HR-inducing RF porch and its AL East domination this season. This is one of those wild inner city rivalries that can never be settled. NYY will always bring out “The 26 ring” speech, and the Mets can counter with the “Miracle” team.
Guess it is another year of “What If’s” in Met-ville while the Pinstripes keep asking for “Whose we playin?” the rest of the season.
Don’t you wish both teams could fight it out MMA style to finally take the NYC crown for their own………..
BTW, who are considered the Giants and the Jets in this battle?

RSBS: How in the world do the Mets live on in a hypocritical city that constantly questions the lives of the players? ;-) Great post here.

Sadly – it is perfect….I might have to send a link to my Met’s fan friend….no really – I’m not that cruel… ;-)

The Mets really have had a tough past couple years. I really hope they can get it back together in the future because they have so many great players. It’s just that they keep getting injured.

The Mets all but died of exsanguination this season. For their sanity, I hope they pull out of this before next season.

The repeated references to Yadier Molina weren’t enough, Jeff? You hafta go over the top AND post a pic of Lil Davey?

RR — I’d say the Yanks are the Giants. The Jets were a 60s incarnation in the newly built AFL, much like the Mets were new (and bad) back then. MMA style sounds good to me!
Ted — Some things never change, dude.
Julia — Send it!
Dillon — If they’re healthy, they will be a tough team to beat… again.
Buz — The dork helmet ain’t gonna stay. That’s a good thing.
Lisa — Exsanguination is a great word for it (is it a word?).
Prince — At least I didn’t bring up Aaron Heilman.
