Dan “The Sac” Plesac on Darren Oliver = WIN
No, no, no. Not on him, sicko. I mean, Dan Plesac talking about Darren Oliver and his new job equals WIN (how’s my hip internet lingo? pretty good? is this thing on?).
Dear readers galore already know that if I’m in front of a television, I’m in front of the MLB Network. And after news broke of journeyman southpaw Darren Oliver signing with the Texas Rangers, the Network crew went to work on the analysis.
Most of the guys were scratching their heads at this move but nobody quite summed it up as adroitly as “The Sac”:
“Darren Oliver… I like this move… is he a great starting pitcher? No. Is he a great reliever? No. But I like what they’re doing…”
Thank you, Dan Plesac.
You… are… AWEsome. Like, y’know, you’re full of some awe.
And I ain’t kiddin’.
Which just proves my longstanding point that you can take the Darren Oliver out of the Texas Rangers, but ya can’t take the Texas Ranger out of Darren Oliver.
And that is on the internets so it is fact. Therefore, don’t hate me. ‘Cuz I’m right.
Peace,
Jeff

Love the internet lingo! I couldn’t have summed up the Oliver move better myself. Attaboy, Plesac.

I guess I have my Rangerdom blinders on and/or I’m too old to understand the latest Intertubes lingo…are you making fun of Plesac, Oliver, the Rangers, or a subset of the three? Most of us down here in the Land of Misfit Toys like the deal.

Don’t really have anything to add to your post, haha. But I updated my blog!

AL — Sac is the man. Always has been, always will be!
Jonestein — The reason they didn’t like it was because the Rangers appear to be going backwards in their pitching staff for 2010 compared to 2009. The Sac saw it differently, in that it was adding an innings eater who is admittedly way past his prime. That’s what I drew from it anyway.
Joe — Jesus Christ. You’re alive. I thought you were dead. The Boss has told me to go easy on ya, so I will. Welcome back (just keep one eye open. LOL.)

Jeff,
I think the Rangers are just reloading up for a season of whooping some Halo booty.
Seriously, even with an ownership shift, Nolan Ryan has the pitching staff gearing up for another solid run at it all.
I am starting to see a shift of power in the AL West, or is that just Robin Ventura finally getting up off the turf.

For a guy who was ready to retire in the spring of 2006, this is a looooooooong farewell tour for Oliver; it’s going on four years!!!!

RR — Hard for me to question Nolan Ryan, but is Darren Oliver the answer? Really. I don’t believe it.
Prince — I’m just amazed he’s kept his ERA under 3.00 as of late. Much to do with the team he was pitching for, but still.

I thought Darren Oliver’s arm would have fallen off by now. A medical miracle.

Jane — I think we all share that thought. Maybe he’s got a case of Satchel Paige-itis.

Darren Oliver’s got a longer shelf life than oleo (whoa, dated reference). As for Pleasac’s analysis, I guess it takes a lefty reliever to know one. Pleasac’s just sticking up for his southpaw sibling. And speaking of lefties with rubber arms, check out Jesse Orosco. Wasn’t he qualified for Social Security while he was pitching those last few seasons with the Padres? Sure felt that way.
