Obligatory Idol Worship: The Greatest I Ever Saw
I knew this was coming.
We all knew it was coming.
And yeah, it probably came later than most of us had hoped.
But all of that is over now… wee memories that will promptly dissolve into suggestions of things we’ll soon forget. Forever.
A true American hero is hanging it up.
Ken Griffey, Jr., you will be missed.
All told, he’s the greatest ballplayer I’ve ever seen. Maybe someday Albert Pujols will take his place in the hallowed halls of my fond baseball-lovin’ regards. But today is isn’t someday; today is the day I stand and applaud the career of an absolute legendary icon — the man I wanted to be, the man every little boy with a glove and a bat wanted to be, the man whose smile could infect an entire stadium.
And did.
Ken Griffey, Jr… saying goodbye to you is like saying goodbye to summer: I know everything will be okay… just a little less fun.
I tip my cap… and can’t wait to see you in Cooperstown.

Griffey Jr. was an amazing player, who was ravaged by infuries. I wish he had performed in the 200s like he had in the 1990s, because now I am relegated to watching highlights of him. Watching him scoring from first is one of the greatest things I have ever seen, and I can’t wait to see him in the HOF in 5 years

Still the best overall player I have ever seen play, and still has the heart of a kid playing the game.
Was an honor and a true memory worth telling my kid’s kids until they run screaming their ears are burning from the stories about the “Kid”.
Diplomat, Ambassador of the game , but most of all a true baseball icon we all hope our kids will copy both as a player and as a human being.
Ken Griffey Junior was my “Michael Jordan”, there will be comparisons, but no equals.

No doubt. When we thought about him, he kept our minds and thoughts about Baseball in a better place. Junior was a line of demarcation for me. He let me know the time of my childhood heroes was over. Junior ushered in the new game for me. He was great doing it too. When you think of other players from this era, they make your mind think of negative things.
