Notes from a Strasburgian Night
As Matt Capps recorded the final out in what turned out to be the most entertaining game of the entire year thus far, and as the camera panned back to frame a victorious, fist-pumping Stephen Strasburg in his Major League debut, a young man dressed in the number 37 from the stands mouthed what was easily lip read as:
“This is a baseball town!”
And he wasn’t kiddin’…
Strasburg’s Stuff
If you know me, you know that nothing makes me “rise up” (wink, wink) quite like my Erin Andrews meets Kourtney Kardashian meets Jenna Fischer fantasy… okay, that and lights-out big league pitching. Stephen Strasburg may not sport 32C’s, but his stuff is as filthy as my mind is imaginative, and that, dear readers, is about as dirty as it gets.
On Jeff Karstens
Jeff who? Who is that? No, seriously. Who is he?
Rise in Relevancy
Picture it: It’s a Tuesday evening… you just got off work… and all you want to do is rush home to watch that Pittsburgh Pirates/Washington Nationals game. You’ve been waiting for it in eager anticipation for well over a week now, and finally, as you crack open that beer and get a glimpse of what magic may become, you settle in to what ends up being the most captivating game you’ve seen all year long, of any teams, in any league.
And it’s the Pirates.
And the Nats.
Seriously.
This is good for the game, people. This is very, very good for the game.
Don’t hate me. ‘Cuz I’m right.
Peace,
Jeff
Amazing young pitcher. Go figure that the homerun hit off of him was Delwyn Young, ex Dodger.

14 Ks and all that velocity. Baseball is back in DC for sure. I feel sorry for the crosstown O’s, as I’m sure some will cross over to the other side.

Cat — Yep…had a nasty K mixed in there too.
Jane — The O’s can go nowhere but up at this point… I hope they get it together soon.

They showed highlights at Rangers Ballpark last night and the crowd gave a rousing round of applause afterward. This, in Texas, where we pretty much despise anything D.C. related.
I, like you, was not only dazzled by The Chosen One, but equally amazed that I was applauding highlights from a Pirates/Nats game.
I just hope the Nats build a good team around him, I’d hate to see another travesty of wasted talent a la Grienke.

Jonestein — I know what you mean with the Greinke comparison… that it’s more about having one star on an island of crap… but I still hesitate (after just one Big League performance) to compare him to Greinke. Greinke has never lit up the place like Strasburg did. Never. Wowee!
–Jeff
Yeah very good, a lot of very fast pitches… I’ll be impressed if he’s doing it next season or in September against the Cards or someone with hitters that love fastballs…

Phillies Outside
For a game, That Was Sick! I watched and haven’t been that entertained in a while. Nice to hear Bob Costas do a game again too…even though he isn’t at his best anymore.
mike
Peter — Me too! Of course, THAT won’t happen though, right?
Mike — I dunno… I still really like Costas. He brings a lot to the game and he thinks like I think: logically 🙂

Jeff, I can’t figure out what happened to Pujols and Holliday. I practically covered my eyes when they were up because I thought they would be hitting the long balls. I am completely surprised at the sweep!
http://catlovesthedodgers.mlblogs.com
He looks really good…but I think we will all be more in awe when he faces a team other than the Bucos ;o)

Jeff,
Vin Scully was talking about Stephen Strasburg during the game. He said he can’t wait to see him. Strasburg was amazing! I LOVE baseball!

Few aspects of baseball are more golden than a young fireballer with a great curve. Ryan. Gooden. Wood. They reduce a competitive, complex adult sport to an almost carnival level of simplicity. Which, I think, appeals to the child in most of us.

i was impressed as well! 14 K’s and some filthy stuff mixed in there. Goodness! I guess all the hype was lived up to? No? Well we’ll just wait until his second start I suppose. I’m sure more people are interested in that. It’s amazing how his jerseys are just selling out already especially in a town where they’ve deserted their team ever since its existence. If that brings more fans to support the team then I’m glad because the Nationals need some sort of support to do better 🙂

Cat – Sometimes they go away… mentally. Rarely. But they do.
Jenn – True… still, a big league team is a big league team.
Emma – ME TOO! LOL
Matt – Indeed, I felt like a kid watching that game. It was really special.
Mimi – I hope they get somethin’ goin’ in DC. It will benefit all of baseball if they do.
