Flying Too Close to the Sun

icarus.jpgConfidence is a good thing.

But, too much confidence can be deadly.

To Red Sox Nation, who declared the season over before it even started, this message couldn’t be more true.

Or how about Charlie Sheen and his self-destructing, bridge-burning rampage against all-things reasonable?  Couldn’t he have boned some pornstar chicks AND STILL gotten to work on time?

And to the US American electorate who expected the Obama administration to clap its hands and make 8 years of mess magically disappear, do you not understand that these things take time?  That a Mitt Romney or Michelle Bachmann led fascist regime is not the answer?  That political infrastructures aren’t as simple as iPhone apps or ordering chicken fried rice from your local Chinese joint?

Confidence is a good thing.

But, too much confidence can be deadly.

Just ask Mike Leake about his confidence in the good ole five-finger discount.

Hate me ‘cuz I say what you’re thinking, just don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m right.

Peace,

Jeff

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the shoplifting portion of the Mike Leake saga. However, I am MOST interested to see the actual six shirts, worth less than $60, that Mr. Leake was interested in, uh, acquiring from Macys.

What kind of shirt does a pro athlete want to wear, that costs less than $10? A Pujols Cardinals jersey? Where’s the Beef shirt? Cubs World Series Champions shirt? Alf t-shirt?

Rob — Hehe… if I see some Cubs WS shirts, I’m stealin’ them myself and they’re going straight into the fireplace ;-)

Regarding Charlie Sheen – No. Apparently, it’s a little known fact that pornstar chicks mess with your alarm clock once you fall asleep.
Regarding the economy – Eight years is being kind. Eight years thoroughly cemented the problems and saw the complete failure of all parties involved to do anything to regulate the situation. However, the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act and the initial government push for financial avenues that would make it possible for “everyone” to own a home took place under Clinton. That was the beginning and, whatever the Obama administration does or does not do now, the end is still pretty darned far away…but enough of me being cheerful about the economy. ;)

Premature….declarations….are a fabric of baseball. They’re embarrassing, but give us stuff to goof on. See Kay, Michael; and Ortiz, Eric.
Interestingly dueling fools from YES and NESN. Appropriate.

Kristen — The interns did some homework and tell me you’re right on track… in the meantime, my worries are more about another possible change in the way of the crazy train delusionoids taking over. You know the drill ;-)
Prince — Please… no Michael Kay. His voice is like kryptonite on my ears.

Jane — I remember the Reardon story… so strange!

That Leake shoplifting thing was weird. I remember when Jeff Reardon (this was years ago) was arrested for shoplifting in Florida. I guess it’s a Winona Ryder disease.
